Although they proceed in tripartitioned rectangles (stacked four on a page), reflecting their original newspaper format, their narrative flow doesn’t stutter a bit. It’s as if they were conceived as wholes, despite their story lines’ essential capriciousness. In them, the family faces flood, Martians, lighthouse-keeping, and club life (clubs were big in the newly leisured 1950s, the strip’s era, to which it otherwise gives scant notice), and Moomin, the young male character, falls briefly for a siren. tove jansson is the best
My kids love Moomins, and the comic strips have been so engaging for both of them, a 7 year old boy and a 12 year girl. I love sharing my favorite childhood fictional characters with my children, and finding that they find them every bit as endearing as I did!
Recipient loved these books (bought 1, 2 and 3). The books are larger than I expected, in a good way. The covers are beautiful, colorful and textured. The comics inside are all black and white comics, so I don't recommend these for young children.
I read these whimsical, carefully cafted comicstrips as a kid, way back in the seventies in the Dutch newspaper "De Volkskrant" and the strange atmosphere intrigued me. Drawn in a very distinctive, clear line, the stories leasurely meander through the loose plots. Reading Moomin brings you in a relaxed state of mind. Read a story every night before bedtime and you're guaranteed to have pleasant dreams.
My kids love the entire Moomin Comic Series. They bring at least one of them wherever we go.
This book keeps my 6 year old son occupied for hours. The Moomins are wonderful.
Moomintroll is finally growing up a bit, falling in love, facing the Moominvalley version of global warming, meeting Martians and having an adventure at sea - and of course, the ever demanding Stinky shows up again.
My eleven year old daughter and I enjoy the intriguingly weird logic of Jansson's world. There's something so sweet and true about Moomintroll's reactions to the other characters and the situations in the comic strip.
