When Charlaine is good, she's very, very good. When she resorts to "phoning it in"-- not so much. The last few Sookie Stackhouse books are examples of this, and I think this is one too. With this book, she didn't create enough story and used endless tales of breastfeeding, burping, and diaper-changing as filler. I have always liked how she incorporates details of daily life into her stories but this was just Too much. ( I've had a baby and been there, done that, and I get it, but puleeze.... it all gets very boring to read about after the first few accounts.)As far as the actual story (what there was of it) goes, there wasn't much plot-building, there were sub-plots barely related to the main one (the kid with the gun, for example), and the ending was abrupt and flat. The reaction of various characters (except Phillip ) to the revelation of the mystery was disturbing to me, as well. That's all I can say without spoiling it.This is one to check out from the library if you are invested in the Aurora Teagarden series. If you aren't, then skip it altogether.

Well, I am surprised this book got the number of high reviews that it got. The monotony of the baby moments were overwhelming. Yes, we know she breastfeeds because she won't eat anything else. How many times did the author use the phrase latch on. Yes, everyone should look at the baby and admire how beautiful and perfect she is. GMAB. Nothing of note happened until Chapter 6! Then the conflicting stories going on. Yes, the neighbors are jerks, the police are less than cordial, and the descriptions of Aurora having the flu made me sick. I lost track of which mystery was relevant and felt the ending did not tie up neatly. I love this author and the Aurora series. But if this is how it's going to be from this point on I won't be reading any more of this series.

I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this book. Page after page after page about the main character being sick and having to breastfeed. I'm not even exaggerating about the endless pages about breastfeeding, read the other reviews of this book and you'll see others agree. Enough already! I didn't like Roe's bad attitude/mood throughout the entire book, enough already with that as well. Unless she was supposed to be depressed, then I could understand but I know that wasn't the case. The ending was awful and as someone who loves animals, I was offended. I won't ruin it for anyone, I'll just say the main character's attitude about her own cat (the poor thing is probably deaf and she's like, eh, ok. Maybe she'll get around to taking it to the vet, but I doubt it) and her attitude about the neighbor's dog rubbed me the wrong way. As for the mystery itself, pretty thin and weak. Boring book with unlikable characters, poor plot and way too much breastfeeding with a grumpy attitude.

I am a big fan of Charlaine Harris but this story was not a story like I expect from her. The book focuses almost half of the book about Aurora being a new mom and being sick before we even get to the plot and story. I was pissed at Robin’s character for not encouraging Aurora to go back to work as that was her characters passion; now her only passion is her child that is disappointing to me as a woman. If you are a fan I would suggest skipping this story or read it and move on it is a quick read.

Let me say that I'm am a huge CH fan! Read all the books in all of the series, seen all the movies & the shows, couldn't wait for this book come out! So you can imagine how I'll felt when I continued to get increasingly disappointed with each disc as the story went on (I listened to the audio book version). Idk wth CH (& the publisher's) were thinking when she wrote (&they approved) this book??? This was the most boring , most uninteresting, most irritating story in this series. I wanted to love it, I really did but instead I came away hating the name Sophie & not wanting to hear another word about breast feeding or babies or motherhood ever :/ Where was the adventure, & the antics, & the excitement that are usually in this series? I'm so glad I waited & rented this from the library instead of running out right away & buying it like I had planned. I would have been even more upset had I wasted not only my time but my money aswell. Like I said in the title unless you have already read or listened to the other books in this series & are invested in it just SKIP IT save your time & most definitely your $money$. Make sure you get it from your local library if you insist on reading or listening to it.

Was this written by a ghost writer?! At no point did I fall into the comfortable rhythm I expect of a Charlaine Harris Novel. I have read EVERY book that she has written, and this book did not live up to my expectations. No witty humor, no fun and quirky Aurora. Not even an exciting plot or eventful mystery. Waste of $12.99 for sure.

I read all the previous books in this series over the last couple months, so the character relationships were fresh in my mind, but I'm not entirely sure that would be necessary to enjoy this book. Harris switches tone once again and returns to a more cozy feeling in this episode.I was looking forward to reading this so I went through it pretty fast, only a couple hours to finish. Many of the familiar characters show up, with their backstory explained quickly, and a couple of new ones. I figured out the killer around mid-point, although I misinterpreted a couple of the clues about Virginia. It's fun to get fooled in a book. Way too many scenes about Roe breast-feeding the baby, I think Harris included EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. it happened over the week of the story. I think Harris may also have read some criticisms of earlier books about Roe being whiny and self-centered; there are scenes where Roe watches for this tendency in herself - but Harris hasn't changed the character. And there was a sub-plot that seemed really unnecessary. All in all, I am happy to have the series continue, I liked the cozy tone, but there was a lot of filler about caring for the baby that just dragged the plot to a crawl. I'd still buy the next one, if there is one.
