Sadly this will likely be my last book in this series. The Author has pretty much used the main character as their whipping boy through most of the books and it has gotten worse and it has gotten old. Secondly the author wrote their character as smart, but she just seems to do dumber and dumber things as we go on. The current book is in my opinion the worst offender in the series. possible spoilers ahead...The last book set up a situation where she finally managed to free her boyfriend from some horrible possession by one of the series big bads, she temporarily manages to take him somewhere where the villain is helpless and lying at her mercy and she just wanders off and never does anything to stop him from regaining his powers and starting his crap back up. That's just ridiculous, no one would do this and yet there it is. Then a little while later the main character stumbles into someone who is obviously going to be a villain and a potentially powerful one at that and what does she do? She takes them right to a super powerful artifact that this person desperately wants and basically hands it to her in a friends secret lair which of course results in all types of bad things happening to everyone involved. When I read it, it was so obvious and so dumb that if I had been reading a physical book I would have been tempted to throw it on the ground and stomp off. It was that maddening. I read books for enjoyments sake and the author has eroded that enjoyment the characters and story had and left me with frustration. Its no longer fun to see the main character constantly be stupid and get wrecked over and over and over so that's it for me. I gave it three stars because it was decently well written and edited.
While I have enjoyed the other books in this series, I think this might have been my favorite. Fairly different from the others but a good stepping stone and far and away quite a reach. Suspend your reality and just jump in, I don’t think you’re going to be disappointed. You do need to have read at least several of the series to know what’s going on, but have fun.
All the stories all the characters all the plot twists and all of Amelia's actions lead to the events related in this book. I find myself unable to express the complete brilliance that is this saga and how all of it came together in this book. Do yourself a favor and read this book and if you haven't read the previous books ... Read them! You're set for an incredible adventure even if you don't like superheroes or science fiction the story is so good is beyond preferences.
I rarely write opinions of anything, but I felt it wise to share my honest opinion of this book;I have watched the title character grow from book to book; watched her develop, like a father would observe his daughter grow from a baby to a full fledged adult. I have been immersed in a well developed world, which keeps growing with each new iteration, and where openings are intentionally left to allow for future growth. I have watched other side characters become fully fleshed out, with back stories all of their own, and felt their joy, their anger, and their pain.As George R.R. Martin said, a person who reads lives a hundred lives; a passion who doesn't lives only one. This rings true, especially with this series. That trend continues with this book. The plot twists alone make it worth reading several times, and are a great addition to the series. It is like a favorite movie that ends in a cliffhanger; all of the sudden, you're at the end, but you DEMAND to know what happens next! That, for me, is this book. There is only one thing that I don't like; and that is having to wait for the next book!Overall, it is a well planned, thoughtful, and emotional addition to the series, and I look forward to what the author has planned next!
Book Seven has an ending I was not expecting, writing is great, and I hope Amelia can regain her emotional stability after what happened, well worth the read, though it makes more sense if you read books 1 through 6.
These books always read so incredibly fast for me because they’re page-turners. Jeffrey blends the points of view perfectly while completing an over arching plot for every book so that each installment is satisfying.
Again you have hit it out of the ballpark with this story.. I love this series more than normal comics
TL;DR - Ho hum story, but it does progress the overall plot and there is a change up to the character lineup. My big problem with this book is it's starting to feel like a Niall Teasdale or Michael Anderle novel, where the female characters become the primary focus and they're grossly overpowered. This book focus a little on Amelia, but mostly on Tia, Tessa, and Domino. The story was mostly action scene after action scene and it gets exhausting. Some calm exposition and fact finding would have been preferable. The whole thing with an organized crime syndicate taking control of vast swaths of the US government just didn't make sense. There are numerous checks and balances within the system to prevent such things. The moment the FBI did the public sting against The Protectors in the previous book, red flags would have gone up and internal investigations would have been triggered.
