I was recently promoted to be a middle manager in a very male-centric but not necessarily a traditional "office" environment (News editor at a mid-sized daily) and was hoping to get some great pointers on being a strong leader without being a bitch or having to rely of feminine cuteness or coyness (no one is going to consider me a sex-boot, more likely a little sister, and I'm not politicial or cunning.) This book assumed I have a lot more power to make decisions about company policy than I do -- including using money or promotions as a way to motivate people. I wish it was that easy in this economy -- no one at our paper has had a raise in 6 years and there are no promotions to give. It did help re-enforce a few things I was already figuring out for myself -- friendships change, communication and clear expectations are important and leading by example can be very powerful. On the whole, I think these authors are working in an environment that doesn't reflect anything I've ever seen and I don't really know any one else who could relate either.
I absolutely loved this book! I have bookmarks on at least every 5 pages that I plan to go back and reference. This book is very practical and uses real life examples in so many job fields. There has not been one chapter that bored me. It was written very very well and I plan to read the whole thing again very soon!
Still reading this book but have been highlighting like crazy because every line in this book is highlighter worthy and worth remembering!
This book is a little cliche. Was looking for more profound and relevant advice on this really important, current topic.
Practical and applicable to today's working female. I purchased both the audible and written version. I travel 4hours a week. My thoughts are I need this practical advice to be ingrained into my thought process and the more I hear it the more likely this will occur.
LOVED this book. Full of wisdom and practical advice for a new female supervisor.
I am taking over my father's company, so I bought this book. I really enjoyed it and would recommend for any women in authority. It has a lot of great points.
