As the book closes the plantation owners are setting up a completely different response than [now] General Travers, retired, must work to defeat.>.. I tried to read it non-stop, but couldn't, I grew too weary. But it moves along smartly and carries much thought into the effects and responses to the actions taken. Very well thought out, and plenty to keep my attention going to the very end.>.. More to come!
I just stumbled across this series before the holidays and I have steadily read through all 5 books. I enjoy the characters and the historical topic of Texas before it became a state in the USA, although in this AH it remains independent. Plausible different outcome given the time travel premise, rich in the periods historical personalities and major political issues. Strongly recommended for an alternate history path less travelled. More in the spirit of H. Beam Piper's, "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen," than a Harry Turtledove alternate history.
I can't say enough good things about "The Lone Star Reloaded" series by Drew McGunn... I read between 75 and 100 books every year and this series is as fun, and exciting as ANY I read! I'm terrible at remembering to write "reviews" but had to take the time to let everyone know just what a gem these 'reads' are. I can't wait for #6, which I understand ill be his last one in the series. I'm hoping he changes his mind and thinks there's more tale to tell..... BUY THEM ALL! You won't be disappointed!
A great addition to a superb series of Alternate History stories. Well written, engaging characters and plotline. If you have read this series before grab this book.. if you have not read this series go to Book one and start.
The story continues where the last book left off. Drew finishes the cliffhanger off and then moves into a longer historical arc that sees the story's timeline progess rapidly. I enjoyed it, and now the stage is set for what seems to be the final act of the series.
An excellent read for those interested in alt history.This Book the latest in the Series Brings the Differences Will Travers has steered for Texas against those who oppose his plans to a head.Those Dastardly Scum seek leverage over him will they succeed well Read on to find out.
I'm only giving this five stars because I'm not sure how the next book will turn out. I am very skeptical of the ending of this book.
Time travel and displacement of William Travis premise is getting worn without any further development of how or why that might have happened. Might have been better off without the main character's previous life unless Drew has a surprise in store for us. Time to drop some hints about that. Will says that "Too many of his past memories (redundant) were hard to recall." You'd think he would remember stuff about his first 30 or so years of life prior to his transport and think back on them since he has no memories of Travis's youth.An otherwise interesting alternative to history as we know it told in a straightforward and uncomplicated manner. But not quite as exciting as previous ones of the series perhaps. Only halfway through so I might be surprised yet.
